Our Hearts Are Breaking

My father died in June of 1998.  I moved to Wilmington, NC in September of that very same year at the ripe old age of 24.  This was my first journey into living alone.  It was exciting and scary all at the same time.  Approximately one month later I decided that I needed some furry companions to make my single-girl lifestyle complete.  After looking in the local paper, I found exactly what I needed — Scout & Daisy.  They were three month old kittens whose Daddy was part Siamese and Momma was a Heinz 57.  The family had a whole slew of cats inside their house and the longer I stayed inside, the more eyes I felt on me.  The man of the house was quite a character.  He proceeded to tell me that he was allergic to cats and the only way he could even stand to live in his house was by taking steroids!  Anyway, I took Scout and Daisy home with me and we’ve been together ever since.  They’ve been with me through highs and lows– through devastating breakups, new jobs, new towns and even a new husband! 😉  Seven years ago, Chucklebutt came not only into my life, but the girls’ life as well.  While Scooter has always sorta been a momma’s girl, Daisy immediately took to Chuck. For the last seven years, she has been his girl.

Last Saturday evening, tragedy struck.  We lost our beloved Daisy suddenly and our hearts are breaking.  Doctors think it may have been a blood clot, but we will never know for sure.

For the past few days, Chuck and I have been gathering our favorite photographs of our dear, sweet friend.

Thank you Chuck for the beautiful tribute.  Daisy would have been proud. (Watch it full-screen and even in HD if you can, with your sound on. Be sure to watch until the very end for a little video surprise.)

You can read Chucklebutt’s photography blog post for his perspective and some technical background on how the slideshow was created.
